The CIDN launch

The launch of the Drone Innovation Center in Normandy (CIDN)

Le Havre, January 2021  The Drone Innovation Center in Normandy (CIDN) was launched in December 2020, proclaiming Normandy as one of the major development centers of the drone industry in France.

The CIDN aims for drone device development across the territory by experimenting new and innovative solutions. Eight major drone actors founded this organisation : ROAV7 – NAE – 7cis – Polidrone – ABOT – Université Le Havre Normandie – Le Havre Seine Développement. They actively collaborate with the Smart Port City Project supported by the University of Le Havre Normandie for the drone section.

The center has two considerable goals :

  • increasing drone activity in Normandy for these following applications : Crisis Management, Logistics, Maintenance, Safety and Monitoring, Resource Development,
  • stimulating the development of innovative UAV solutions : full-deployment of drones, integration and assessment of sensors, On-board Artificial Intelligence.

ROAV7 commits to actively and efficiently participate in achieving the intended goals but also to contribute to the CIDN development thanks to its resources and means.

ROAV7 and the UIC Digital Awards

ROAV7 and the UIC Digital Awards

ROAV7 WON A PRESTIGIOUS AWARD FOR ITS ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE SYSTEM FITTING TO RAILWAY SECTOR.

ROAV7 participated in the fifth UIC Digital Awards and was rewarded as the second most innovative startup in the Services category.

Le Havre – December, 2020 – The 5th UIC Digital Award took place and ROAV7 was awarded in the Services category.

The UIC Digital Awards aim to identify potentially innovative projects that may be of interest to the rail sector and reinforce cooperation and synergies between the worldwide digital ecosystem and the global rail community.

After calling on to take part in the UIC Digital Awards, ROAV7 introduces its innovative and using technology to inspect by UAV : railways, ballast, gantries, crossties and invasive vegetation. The methods used by ROAV7 allow to control :

  • condition and position number of crossties,
  • condition of gantries,
  • volume, distribution, condition and nature of ballast,
  • gap measurement between railway seals,
  • height and nature of invasive vegetation,
  • topography and geometry of the railway system.

Thanks to intelligent algorithms, the automation of disorder quantification developed by the ROAV7 R&D department makes the processing and the analysis for final livrables easier. ROAV7 gives its clients complete reports, available on its data visualization system on the client-dedicated website.

As the outcome of the competition, ROAV7 wins the second award as the second most innovative startup in the Services category. This award bolsters ROAV7’s intelligent software development for railway inspection.

The UIC enables us to :

🔹 introduce us to French railway actors,

🔹 face our services to specialized railway companies and get a constructive feedback,

🔹 enjoy the UIC’s internationally minded network and get opportunities in new markets.

All the ROAV7 team thanks the UIC to have entered this competition and rewarded ROAV7.

For further information, here is the article written by UIC.

ROAV7 completes an UAV inspection of a nuclear concrete infrastructure at 0.3 mm per pixel

ROAV7 completes a concrete nuclear reactor model inspection in high resolution for EDF

In October 2018, ROAV7, a start-up specialized in aerial data acquisition and data processing, was selected by EDF to operate a pilot project : a UAV inspection of a concrete structure in very high definition.

The purpose of the drone inspection project was to explicitly map the visible disorders on a reactor wall model designed to study accelerated aging of the concrete.

In just a few hours, ROAV7 surveyed 330 square meters of the reactor model by UAV. A processing treatment of these data was carried out in the back office in order to deliver an orthophotography enabling to visualize, to measure and to characterize with precision the common defects of the concrete: spalling, corrosion, detachment, visible metal, and cracks from 0.2 mm width.

ROAV7 has already carried out projects of this type and with an accuracy of 0.3 mm per pixel on other concrete surfaces: bridge columns, barge hulls, and offers its clients from private and public sectors analyzes of their concrete infrastructures.

For this type of application, ROAV7 provides  inspection reports presenting the identified disorders, as well as orthophotography and 3D models of the structures.

The European legislation for the use of drones is evolving

The European legislation for the use of drones is evolving

The European legislation for the use of drones is evolving

Each operation by drone is framed by a complex regulatory system which is constantly evolving. The European Commission has introduced new rules for using professional and leisure drones. The new regulations are to be applied in 2020.

These rules aim to guarantee the safety and security of drone operations in Europe and to protect the privacy of citizens.

Technical and operational specificities are required for these drones and regulations specific to pilot training are to improve the safety of UAV operations.

ROAV7 has developed a set of procedures allowing it to intervene safely within the legal framework imposed by the authorities.

Upstream, during, and downstream of operations, ROAV7 organizes each of its interventions within the framework imposed by the legislator, and manages the requests for authorizations of flights with the authorities, the actors of the aerial sectors (aerodromes, etc …) or neighboring infrastructure managers (highways, prisons, industrial or military zones, etc.).

Before each mission, ROAV7 produces an operational risk analysis for its clients, to identify and prevent drone related risks.

Flight plans are carried out in strict compliance with the client’s authorizations, regulatory framework and respect for privacy. Emergency procedures are also put in place.

ROAV7 also ensures the absence of temporary prohibitions of flight indicated by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGAC), which are put in place during important events generating large people gatherings. Il was recently the case during the Rouen Armada.

ROAV7 operates in industrial and critical environments. Each operation presents its technical and safety challenges. Piloting a drone in these conditions is a competition of its own, and pilots must be aware and prepared to all possible risks, know beforehand the environment in which they will operate and meticulously prepare the operation.

ROAV7 BY CAPCIMBO PERFORMES 6 FLARE INSPECTIONS ON 4 FPSOS IN ANGOLA

ROAV7 BY CAPCIMBO PERFORMES 6 FLARE INSPECTIONS ON 4 FPSOS IN ANGOLA

ROAV7 BY CAPCIMBO PERFORMES 6 FLARE INSPECTIONS ON 4 FPSOs IN ANGOLA

ROAV7 and its Angolan partner CAPCIMBO, have carried out drone inspection operations in offshore environment on oil platforms over a period of 5 months.

Le Havre, France, July 19, 2019 – From January till May 2019, ROAV7 by CAPCIMBO realized 6 flare inspections on 4 FPSOs for one of the major Oil & Gas company in Angola.

These offshore operations aim to verify the integrity of the structures and flares of each vessel. These regular inspections make it possible to monitor the evolution of the installations and to predict possible anomalies rather than to undergo them.

ROAV7 by CAPCIMBO operated with a team of two people: a pilot and a project manager, to carry out visual and thermal inspections of the 4 FPSOs’ facilities. More than 140 flights were done on all 6 operations in total security, during the entire period of the operation.

As a result of these operations, ROAV7 by CAPCIMBO provided its client with thermal analyzes that highlight localized heat constraints and 3D models to make accurate measurements in order to detect potential deformations of structures.

ROAV7 by CAPCIMBO operates over Europe and Africa in onshore and offshore industrial environments by offering its services of aerial data acquisition, data processing and data analysis. Our teams are available to discuss about their projects in order to carry out tailor-made operations and with high value-added.
